Wexford County Council sign Public Sector Partnership

Wexford County Council takes another step along the energy efficiency road.

We had a good day out of the office yesterday as Wexford County Council and SEAI signed a Public Sector Partnership in SEAI offices in Dublin 2.  This further commits WCC to energy efficiency targets by 2020 and beyond and through the partnership they receive the support of SEAI’s Public Sector Programme team. Well done all involved and especially our board member, John Carley, Director of Services WCC and our own Jane Wickham, Energy Engineer, who has been working with John and the other members of the WCC Energy Team to reach this point. CKEA welcomes Cllr Oliver Walsh to the CKEA Board.

WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL SIGNS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH SEAI

Council Commits to Reducing Energy Consumption by One Third

Wexford County Council and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have today (Tuesday 23rd May, 2017) signed the Public Sector Energy Partnership.

The partnership strengthens Wexford County Council’s commitment to improving the Council’s overall energy efficiency through the delivery of energy efficiency upgrades to public services across County Wexford. In doing so, Wexford County Council will not only reduce the financial cost of delivering these services but will also make them more sustainable into the future.

Over the coming months, and with the support of experts from SEAI and the Carlow Kilkenny Wexford Energy Agency (CKWEA), the Council’s Energy Team will assess the potential to save energy costs within the Council and develop a Sustainable Energy Action Plan. The Team will lead the implementation of the Plan by undertaking specific, targeted actions to achieve the reduction target of 33% by 2020.

Speaking at the signing, Chief Executive of Wexford County Council, Tom Enright said ‘This partnership demonstrates that Wexford County Council is making a commitment at the highest level to the public sector energy programme. A target of 33% in our energy efficiency is challenging, but reaching it is absolutely essential for Wexford’s economy and environment.”

Commenting, Jim Gannon, CEO of SEAI said: “Public bodies have already achieved more than €600million in energy efficiency savings in the last few years and SEAI is working closely with the public sector to help them on this journey. Local Authorities have a key role to play and with more energy partnerships like the one Wexford County Council has committed to today, even greater energy performance improvements can be achieved as we move towards a low carbon future.”
