Support Scheme Renewable Heat – Applications now open

Applications open for Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH) Scheme

The second phase of the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH), which will provide operational support for biomass boilers and anaerobic digestion heating systems has now opened.

3cea welcome the recent announcement for the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH). Reference: https://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/news-and-media/press-releases/Pages/Minister-Bruton-Announces-Support-for-Renewable-Heat.aspx

Making the announcement Minister Bruton said: “If we are to cut greenhouse gases, we must replace fossil fuels by renewable sources. This scheme is designed to replace fossil fuel heating systems by heat pumps and by heat from biomass or anaerobic digestion. These are sustainable and renewable sources.”

What is SSRH?

SSRH is designed to financially support the replacement of fossil fuel heating systems with renewable energy for large heat demand non-domestic users or non-emissions trading (ETS) sector. The Scheme is made up of two support mechanisms:

  • an on-going operational support for biomass and anaerobic digestion heating systems
  • an installation grant for electric heat pumps

An installation grant of up to 30% to support investment in renewable heating system that uses the following technologies:

  • air-source heat pumps
  • ground source heat pumps
  • water source heat pumps

An operational support based on usable heat output in renewable heating systems in new installations or installations that currently use fossil fuel heating system and convert using the following technologies:

  • biomass heating system
  • anaerobic digestion heating system

The operational support scheme will be open to a wide range of users, and beneficiaries will receive operating aid in the form of a tariff payment for the useful heat generated over a 15-year period.
