H4.0E Workshop Series – Session 6: Panel Discussion

As part of the H4.0E Project, 3cea is delighted to launch our H4.0E Workshop Series. This series is directed towards policy makers and drivers, those involved in housing construction, as well as any interested parties and stakeholders. The series begins January 26th and occurs weekly until March 2nd where we close the series with a panel discussion. Each workshop will take place from 10 am until 11 am. The agenda and speakers are available below.

The theme for this webinar series is ‘How the low carbon approach of H4.0E can fit the Irish Construction Policy Context.’

The programme for H4.0E Workshop Series is:

Session 1: 26th January at 10am – Low Embodied Carbon Approach – Ralf Kampe (3cea)

 

The theme for this workshop is: Achieving low carbon & affordable & small H4.0E-nZEB social housing units.

 

 

In this workshop, 3cea will give an introduction to H4.0E and the online material available through the project. Speaker Ralf Kampe will also introduce the H4.0E principles of low carbon material, low carbon construction types, first fabric approach, and the benefits for stakeholders. This will all be followed by a Q&A.

 

Session 2: 2nd February at 10am – Mass Timber Solution and Circularity – Florian Thoma (Thoma wood100)

 

The theme for this workshop is: Glue-less Mass timber solution and circulation; digitalisation of the design and manufacture process.

 

 

During this workshop, Florian Thoma will discuss dowl Laminated timber moon wood circularity and its benefits. This will be followed by a Q&A.

 

Session 3: 9th February at 10am – Use of the H4.0E Platform – Planning, Designing & Engineering and Construction – Alastair Parvin (Open Systems Lab)

 

The theme for this workshop is: Digitalisation of the Design Process to Achieving H4.0E nZEB/ZEB buildings.

 

 

The H4.0E platform is one of the deliverables of the project and is a digital platform that allows future developers and even laypersons to build their homes using the H4.0E principles.

During this workshop Alastair will show attendees the platform, how it works, and how to use it. The topics to be discussed
include the platform’s structure and principles, DfMA, design process, supply chain, platform output and exchange, and the benefits for the stakeholder. This will be followed by a Q&A.

 

Session 4: 16th February at 10am – Low operational Carbon approach – Barry Mc Carron (South West College) & 3cea

 

The theme for this workshop is: Achieving low carbon & affordable & small H4.0E-nZEB social housing units.

 

 

 

During this workshop Barry McCarron will present an introduction into H4.0E and the online material available through the project. He will then discuss Passive House principles and its benefits for stakeholders. This will be followed by a Q&A session.

 

Session 5: 23rd February at 10am – Efficient up to date building supply technique – Barry Mc Carron (SWC) & 3cea

The penultimate workshop in our series, Barry McCarron of South West College will build on his previous workshop and continue the theme of Achieving low carbon & affordable & small H4.0E-nZEB social housing units.

To close our Workshop Series, 3cea will host a panel discussion with invited industry professionals to discuss the landscape of low carbon and low energy buildings in Ireland and the potential future in this area.

The main theme for this panel discussion is: “Why is Ireland so far behind in adopting low carbon and low energy buildings and how do we change the situation?

The panel will also look to discuss:

  • Achieving low carbon, affordable & small H4.0E-nZEB social and private housing units.
  • How can we learn from our European partners to embed the H4.0E approach in the Irish Construction Context?
  • Barriers to overcome in the social and private housing market
  • How do we drive change in this industry?

This panel will be facilitated by Michael Doran of 3cea. Michael is the EU Projects Manager at 3cea and is an experienced chair and facilitator.
